Ideology and Moral Derangement
On July 25, Andy Norman will share a controversial new hypothesis about the root causes of ideological thinking. What do religious and political ideologies have in common? What's the source of their remarkable power to disorder people's minds? Can they mess with a person's moral compass? Can they make otherwise normal people support torture, religious intolerance, racist policies, and the caging of children? How is it that an entire culture can come unhinged? And how do we combat this hugely destructive phenomenon? (Bonus: What can the Greek myth of Perseus and Medusa teach us about ideologies?)
